For the Henry Mountains Unit—arguably the most coveted mule deer hunt in Utah—you’re dealing with the absolute top tier of difficulty in draw: Archery: essentially random only / extremely rare for nonresidents, Muzzleloader: essentially random only / extremely rare for nonresidents, and Rifle (any weapon): ~25–29+ bonus points for a real chance. For the West Desert – Vernon Unit, you’re looking at a mid-tier limited-entry mule deer unit—noticeably easier than Nebo or Paunsaugunt, but still not easy as a nonresident. Description
After a good breakfast it is off to the mountain to get after the bucks. First light, you will find yourself glassing and searching through high mountain meadows and aspens to find some large deer. After searching for a buck, the guide can make a valid determination what the best avenue of approach to find a good shooting position. Glassing and spot and stalk are the main techniques used for these large racked giants. Also, pinch points will be utilized for ambush, when traveling to and from feeding and watering areas. Get used to climbing and descending steep terrain, crossing creeks and rocky scree areas. This hunt will bring you through and across rugged rocky terrain, timbered ridges, and alpine basins where green and lush grasses grow. In the end, if you follow the guide's instructions, come well prepared and in shape, then, you'll quite possibly bring home a trophy of a lifetime.

Description
Gear is typical for any western big game hunt. Mostly, glassing can be coldest as one is sitting still and feeling every gust of wind. Multiple Technical layered clothing is best for glassing up shooter bucks. Careful glassing reveals the mature bucks that the outfitter is looking to harvest. This can take quite a while. Maybe an insulated butt pad would be good to sit on. With multiple techniques utilized, glassing and spot and stalk is the mainstay of the outfitters typical hunting method. When on the move maybe drop one layer of insulation as you'll be perspiring after that buck. Don't forget that pesky short rainshower on the way to a good shooting position. These all have happened on hunts before. Coming prepared for all types of weather, with multiple layers, can and will make the difference between making that shot and bringing home the trophy, or missing and bringing home nothing, and this choice is yours
