Description
Nilgai bulls are formidable animals, typically weighing between 240 and 635 pounds, with a heavy, muscular frame and a thick neck. Their short, conical horns usually range from 7 to 10 inches, but exceptional bulls may push 12 inches or more. Mature bulls display a slate-gray or bluish coat, giving rise to the nickname “Blue Bull.” Cows are smaller, more lightly built, and tan in color, offering a great option for those looking for quality table meat and a less physically demanding hunt. Nilgai are browsers and grazers, feeding on a variety of grasses, herbs, and woody shrubs. Their desert-adapted physiology allows them to go long periods without drinking water, even during the intense South Texas summer. This resilience, combined with their wariness and speed, makes Nilgai one of the more difficult exotic game species to pursue.
