- Gear List
A float trip moose hunt for those hunters seeking a DIY style hunt. Outfitter takes care of the logistics and flights in and out of the bush, scouting, raft setup, gear prep and put away. When hunters shows up to go hunting, their raft will be on the river ready to load. Outfitter staff will go over the food, camp, and gear before hunters take off. Hunters will load up on a supplied 14' raft and be on their way to a successful trophy hunt in the Alaska Wilderness. Equipment provided is top notch. It is the same gear outfitter uses for their high dollar guided hunts in the same area. Hunters must be prepared for some light whitewater rafting. Booking with a hunting partner is required, and there can be no more than 4 hunters per camp. Each hunter may also shoot 1 bull caribou, up to 3 black bears, up to 10 wolves, and 1 wolverine each (OTC Licenses required). This is a public land hunt, but Outfitter will intentionally not be guiding in this area when DIY hunters are booked. With in-depth advice from the outfitter, hunters will be given everything they need to be successful.

Outfitter will go over the best places to camp and hunt based on their knowledge from more than 30 years in this same area and what they have been spotting when flying before hunters arrival. Outfitter is based within 35 air miles of where hunters will be hunting, so there is a safety net. If hunters rent a SAT Phone or have an InReach, they can check in with outfitters at the lodge. There are no roads in the game management unit! This helps to assure a successful wilderness trip. Outfitter does not load the river up with hunters. One group at a time with a week in between groups. Hunters will be hunting in the mountains near tree-line. Not stuck down in the swamp hoping to see a bull near the river, or rely strictly on calling. The most effective technique is spot and stalk hunting. Outfitter will give hunters suggestions where they often camp and hunt with good glassing locations. Each hunter may also shoot 1 bull caribou, up to 3 black bears, up to 10 wolves, and 1 wolverine each ( OTC license required).

Hunters will need to be in fair enough condition to pack your moose or caribou from the location of harvest and deliver to the runway on the day of pick up. This is not a hunt for the weak of heart, but if hunters are willing to put the work in, they will have good shot opportunity.
Transportation (To/From Basecamp)
Hunters will need to get a charter from base camp to and from anchorage. This is an additional cost for the hunters. When booked, outfitter can help arrange. Round trip transportation from Anchorage to the lodge is included for the hunters, limited to one flight each way for 2 hunters in a Cessna 206 on wheels. Moving the camp and raft gear back to the lodge, is included in the hunt. Hunters will have to get their gear and meat up to the runway at the take out. Hunters will fly into the Hartman Lodge with an air charter service where they will start their float. The float is about 40 river miles long on a 14' raft so you are not wasting your time setting and breaking camp every day. This will allow for a more productive hunt.
